NDLEA to get more scanners

Senate Committee Chairman on Drugs, Narcotics Financial Crimes and Anti-Corruption, Senator Victor Lar, has assured of the committee’s assistance in procuring scanning machines to sustain the war against drug trafficking.
Lar made the assurance during a visit to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency headquarters in Lagos in company with other members of the committee.

He said, "There is a direct link between illicit drugs and crime and the NDLEA plays a crucial role in ensuring national security. We are here to examine how the agency expended money appropriated to it.
"Our observation is that the funding of the agency is below expectation and we are going to provide the needed intervention with regard to scanning machines, arms and ammunition, sniffer dogs, vehicles, public enlightenment and personnel training."
The committee members, who were received by the NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive, Ahmadu Giade, expressed satisfaction with the removal of the country’s name from the drug majors’ list by the United States’ government.
Lar said the country must work harder to sustain its drug control efforts.
He promised that his committee would ensure that the agency was adequately strengthened to face the challenges of drug trafficking and abuse.
Giade thanked the committee for the visit, which he said had afforded the members the opportunity to assess the working condition of the agency.
