In a determined effort to commercialize Nigeria Postal Agency (NIPOST), the federal government has decided to withdraw its ₦7 billion yearly funding grant to NIPOST from January 2012.
The postmaster general of NIPOST, Ibrahim Mori Baba made this disclosure in Benin City today, at the opening ceremony of the 2011 annual conference of Public Relations and Marketing departments of NIPOST.
He noted that if the postal agency would have to remain afloat, NIPOST would have to work extra hard to source the ₦7 billion after the federal government withdraws its funding.
He however urged the workers not to panic over the subvention withdrawal, assuring that there would be no job loss.
“Every reform has its challenges. There is that thinking that we are going to lose our jobs. Don’t panic. Don’t feel bad. We have to find the ₦7 billion. We have told government that we are ready for the commercialization. We need this commercialization. We need to improve on our efficiency and performance,” he said.
Mori Baba called on NIPOST staff to show commitment through hard work, sacrifice, endurance and imaginative application of available resources, adding that a commercialized NIPOST required the professionalism and intellect of its officers in carrying out aggressive marketing and communication strategies.
