Armed Robbers at the odd hours of Sunday raided the state General Hospital at Abeokuta, subjecting patients and their relatives to torture before carting away their victims' money and other valuables during the midnight robbery operations.
Hospital sources say the seven-man gang of bandits arrived the hospital, located in Sokenu-Ijaiye area of the town, at about 1am on Sunday, and launched the attack at gun point, which rendered both the patients and medical personnel dumbfounded.

The gang arrived the hospital gate at the odd hour pretending to the security at the gate that they brought in an emergence case, hence they were allowed in. Having gained access into the hospital premises however, the bandits disarmed the private security guards at the gate, collected money, phones and other vital items from them and caged them before moving to the cashier's office and the pharmacy department.
The suspects later moved round the wards, collecting money, phones and other valuables from the patients and their relatives.
Some relatives of patients told NEXT they could not believe that patients could be robbed at gun within an hospital premises.
A liver patient in ward 7 of the hospital, Wole Oduntan while narrating his ordeal in the hand of the robbers on his sick bed, said the armed men suddenly burst into the ward, forcing all patients to be awake.
He expressed shock that ‘the heartless bandits' didn't spare any of the patients, as they collected cash, phones and other valuables from one bed to the other, while the ward orderly and nurses were also ordered to be on their knees while the operation lasted.
Possible death
An unconfirmed hospital source said the operation might have claimed one life, as one Lateef Odeyemi, a 75-year-old patient on admission for hypertension, was said to have succumbed to fear of the sudden presence of the armed men within the premises.
The robbers who operated for about one hour, on completion of their raid, made away with the hospital gate keys and security chains.
However, two policemen have been deployed to the hospital, where NEXT found them sitting close to the hospital gate.
As at the time of filing this report, none of the officials of the hospital was ready to comment. The Head of the Hospital, Nosiru Aigoro could also not be reached as his phones were switched off.
