TWO days into Ramadan, another explosive device was detonated around Gomari Bus-stop round about in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, leaving one person injured.
The incident which occurred at about 7:15 am yesterday however, made several residents of the state to wonder whether the Improvised Explosive Device, IED, could have been masterminded by members of Jamaatyul Ahlis Sunnah lid Daawa wal Jihad popularly known as Boko Haram, who had earlier said they would go for a break during the Ramadan fasting.
Vanguard gathered that, immediately after the blast, the Joint Task Force, JTF, cordoned off the area and started shooting sporadically in the air . This resulted in traffic jam that lasted for almost two hours along major roads.
A resident of Gomari area told Vanguard that he was resting in his house when he heard gun shots from the JTF , adding that he later discovered that all the shops around the state Pilgrims Welfare Board were razed.
Confirming the blast to newsmen, spokesman for JTF, Lt Col Hassan Mohammed said some suspected members of Boko Haram also planted a bomb at the major road leading to Damaturu, the Yobe State capital which later exploded yesterday.
He said the bomb was not targeted at any of his men, pointing out that no casualty was recorded on the side of his troops or civilians as a result of the blast.
He, however, stated that the JTF was on top of the situation, and enjoined members of the public not to panic, but to go about their normal businesses.
