Labour tasks FG on Boko Haram

TRADE Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, yesterday, called on the Federal Government to apply the same level of force used to cripple the Movement for Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, Oodua People’s Congress, OPC, and Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta, MEND, on Boko Haram, arguing that operations of the trio were not as dastardly as what Boko Haram has inflicted on the nation.
This came as Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, called on government to immediately overhaul the nation’s security agencies to meet exigencies of the time.


In a statement, TUC’s Secretary General, Chief John Kolawole, said: In view of the recent bombing of the United Nations building in Abuja by the Boko Haram, TUC still maintains its position that members of this group of idle and uncivilized sect operating under the guise of religion must be brought to justice no matter what it will cost the nation.

The UN building blast of last Friday has gone beyond Nigeria as it has now taken a global dimension and which we must equally tackle through a collective global action, especially among countries whose citizens were causalties of this condemnable act.

“TUC believes that the bombings in our society would not have gained grounds if the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, and other agencies of government charged with monitoring of aliens movement across the land, live up to their responsibilities of protecting national security as against the current practice whereby national security is mortgaged on baseless acts of corruption and self aggrandizement.

“The Federal Government must apply the same level of force used to cripple MASSOB, OPC and MEND which operations were not as dastardly as what Boko Haram has brought on the nation”.
