The Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria on Sunday in Kaduna threatened to mobilise Muslims in the country to go to war with Christians over the ongoing Islamic banking controversy.
The SCSN also warned Christian clerics in the country to stop opposing the ongoing move by the Central Bank Governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, to create interest-free Islamic banks in Nigeria.
The SCSN President, Dr. Ibrahim Datti Ahmad, issued the threat while reading the communiqué issued at the end of a meeting of the council at Arewa House, Kaduna.
Ahmad warned that Muslims in the country would no longer keep quiet and allow others to blackmail them over the planned commencement of the interest-free banking system in September.
The cleric argued that since interest-free banking had been practised in Britain and other Christian dominated countries successfully, Nigerian Muslims would resist any attempt by the Christian Association of Nigeria to frustrate the implementation of the system in the country.
