The Ogun State governor, Ibikunle Amosun, yesterday declared that his administration will have zero tolerance to corruption in his quest to develop and reposition the state.
Mr Amosun, who made the declaration while addressing members of Course Six from the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, who paid him a visit in his office in Abeokuta, also disclosed that his resolve to deliver on all his promises to the people of the state is unwavering.
He noted that the fight against corruption remains a battle that must be won, if the desired infrastructural development of the country would be achieved.
"We are sincere about our commitment to rebuild Ogun State, including its infrastructure. We are determined to make our mark and are prepared to be judged by our performance. Consequently, we will have zero tolerance for corruption," he said.
The governor also pointed out that the anti-graft war is crucial for the successful delivery of democratic dividends in the country.
"A successful fight against corruption will ensure abundant availability of resources for development. Therefore, reducing or eliminating corruption is synonymous with developing the infrastructural base of the country," he added.
The governor said that the visiting NIPSS students should make comprehensive recommendations on practical ways of addressing the infrastructural needs of the country, adding that such recommendations should cover transport and road network; electricity - both generation and distribution, as well as adequate funding of states.
Mr Amosun also hailed the issue of Nigeria's ethnic pluralism, which the six-member team was studying, stressing that Nigeria has the capacity to turn its ethnic diversity into economic and political strength, as is the case with India and China.
While noting that Ogun State has been able to manage its plurality effectively, he charged the visitors to make comprehensive recommendations that can smoothen the existing relationship between the various communities.
The visiting team, led by NIPSS director of studies, Tom Imodighe, said they were examining the management of Nigeria's pluralism and have chosen six states, including Ogun, to carry out the research.
Mr Imodighe also praised the governor for the calibre of persons in his cabinet, stressing that the move underscores the desire of the governor to achieve set goals.
