FG has lost control – Baptist Church

The Nigerian Baptist Convention on Wednesday expressed regret that contrary to its claims, the Federal Government was not on top of the situation concerning the incessant attacks by Boko Haram in various parts of the country.

The convention’s General Secretary, Rev. Olasupo Ayokunle, made the church’s position known at a news conference in Ibadan, Oyo State.

While expressing dissatisfaction with the series of bombings linked to the sect, Ayokunle said no group should ever be more powerful than government’s security forces.

He therefore advised the government to rise up to its responsibilities by protecting lives and properties of Nigerian.

He said, “The activities of these bombers portray them as people without the fear of God and people that attach no value to peaceful co-existence, human life and dignity.

“If it is religion that has drawn them to that extreme, such a religious belief must be seen as undesirable at all in this country because in Nigeria, we value peace and human life.”

On Islamic banking, Ayokunle urged President Goodluck Jonathan to stop the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mallam Lamido Sanusi, from granting licence for the operation of the bank.

The Chairman of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria in Ekiti State, Pastor Ola Adejubee, has, however, advised churches operating in the northern part of the country to always be vigilant.

The cleric said this at a press conference in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday, to herald a crusade by the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

Adejubee said the crusade would help to solve a large percentage of the problems facing the country.

He urged security agencies to intensify intelligence gathering, saying through this, they would be able to prevent terrorists from operating unhindered in the country.

Another cleric, Pastor Fortune Oyor, who traced the root of insecurity in the country to hunger, said the problem must be addressed in order for the country to witness peace.
