Daily Times: Court issues bench warrant against Anosike brothers

An Ikeja High Court, yesterday, issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Messrs Fidelis Anosike and Noel Anosike, two directors of Folio Communications, owner of Daily Times Plc over their failure to obey court summons

Justice Habeeb Abiru, who issued the warrant of arrest, directed the Inspector General of Police to produce them before him on September 28.


The order of the court was sequel to the application by the prosecuting counsel, Mr Ernest Ezebilo, that there was proof of evidence before the court that they were served with the earlier court summons.


The prosecuting counsel who is from the office of the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, asked the court to issue the bench warrant on the accused persons for their refusal to come to court.
The brothers are facing a 40-count charge of alleged stealing and wrongful acquisition preferred against them by the Federal Government.

They were alleged to have stolen over N1.7 billion worth of properties belonging to Daily times which they purchased on March 14, 2007 .

According to the fresh charges, the Anosike brothers and their company, Folio Communications Limited, were alleged to have made false representation to the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE).
The Prosecution alleged that they fraudulently misled the BPE that they had means to acquire majority shares of Daily Times. The alleged offences, according to the charge contravened Section 390(7) and 516 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap C17, Laws of Lagos State 2003 and Section 8 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act of 1995.
