UNILAG to commence e-learning in Law

Learning in the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos will soon change to electronic form in conformity with global standard of learning in legal education.

Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Oyelowo Oyewo, disclosed this on Wednesday during a career talk tagged, “Career Day 2011” organised by the Law Students Society for students of the faculty.

Oyewo, speaking on the need for students to embrace research culture, said the faculty would organise a special fund-raising for research during the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the faculty next year.

He said, “The drive towards e-learning within the next few years will be achieved in the faculty. It is unfortunate that our governments in Nigeria do not take education serious. We are going to organise fund-raising for establishing e-learning in the faculty during the 50th anniversary of the faculty next year.

“The fund-raising will enable those of us who are driving this reform in the legal education to contribute to putting up the best practices in the learning of law in the university.”

Electronic learning, Oyewo said, was already being put in place in the faculty, saying that e-materials were available in the faculty library and students of 200 and 300 levels in the faculty were already enjoying e-learning partially.

Speaking during the programme which drew prominent legal practitioners and specialists in various areas of legal practice, Dr. Omo Eboh, a teacher of law in international institutions commended the faculty for thinking in that direction.

Other speakers at the event, including, Mr. Jimi Agbaje; and Mr. Fabian Ajigwu (SAN), reiterated the need for research in the practice of legal profession and also urged the students to distinguish themselves in their chosen area of legal practice.
