Senate Presidency: More senators endorse Mark, Ekweremadu

THE aspiration of the current Senate President, Senator David Mark, to retain his office in the coming seventh National Assembly received a major boost as ten members of the House of Representatives, who won election into the Senate, on Tuesday, declared their support for him and his deputy, Senator Ike Ekweremadu.


They said they were in support of the retention of Senator Mark as the Senate president and Senator Ekweremadu as deputy Senate president, because of their achievements to date.
Addressing journalists at the National Assembly complex, spokesman of the group, Honourable Ita Enang, said "over the past four years, David Mark presidency has helped in steering the affairs of the senate in a proper direction leading to peace and tranquillity in the senate".
The senators-elect are, Abdul Ningi, Ali Ndume, Philip Aduda, Igwe Paulinus, Prince Nnaji, Ayo Adeseun, Ahmed Barata, Clever Ikisikpo and Bassey Otu.
He also noted that Senators Mark and Ekweremadu had proved to be very competent administrators, effective and responsive leaders.
Enang added that their endorsement of the two leading principal officers of the senate was based on their antecedents and that they were looking forward to work with them in the senate.
Said he,“We carefully considered all viable candidates and critically assessed their strength and shortcomings to determine the suitability of each candidacy. In the end, we unanimously agree to endorse Senator David Mark for another term as Senate President and Senator Ike Ikweremadu as deputy Senate President”
While describing him as a skilled parliamentarian, the outgoing Representatives promised to help maintain stability and ensure Mark’s success in the face of complexities he may encounter in the floor of the Senate.
