Police remand 18 suspects in prison over Oyo crises

Eighteen persons suspected to be involved in the recent mayhem between factions of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, in Ibadan that led to loss of lives and property have been remanded in Agodi Prisons, by a magistrate court.

The suspects were charged with illegal possession of arms, armed robbery and breach of public peace. This came as the manhunt launched by the police has led to the arrest of five more suspects in Iseyin.

Already peace has returned to the state ,especially Ibadan metropolis because of the  clampdown on members of the warring NURTW.

Motor parks in the city have been avoided by most members of the union that used to collect fees from drivers. Unlike the past when some of them would block vehicles and demand fees, commercial drivers in the metropolis now operate freely.

Meanwhile, The State Police Command reiterated its resolve to track down the two factional leaders of the union, Alhaji Lateef Akinsola, aka, Tokyo and Alhaji Lamidi Mukaila, aka, Auxiliary whom it declared wanted on Wednesday.

According to the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Baba Adisa Bolanta, the command would not stop only at the perpetrators of the bloody clashes, but also the sponsors.

He said: “We are not limiting our search for the suspects to Ibadan. We are combing all parts of the state to fish out the trouble-makers. We just arrested five persons in Iseyin on Thursday and any of them that we confirmed to be involved in the violence will be taken to court for the law to take its course.”
