There were renewed hostilities Sunday between the rival groups of the Oyo State National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) with four people feared dead over control of motor parks in the State.
Two people including a middle aged simply identified as Dele Ayegbo were killed last week Monday during a bloody a bloody clash between two factions of the NURTW.The faction of Lateef Akinsola a.k.a Tokyo had last Monday staged a move to reclaim the Iwo Road interchange packs from the Mukaila Lamidi a.k.a auxiliary faction who were supporters of former governor Adebayo Alao-Akala.
During the fracas at Iwo road interchange motor park on Sunday,vehicles numbering 50 were vandalized by union members during the mayhem which lasted five hours.over 20 shops burnt ,40 shops were looted, while several people sustained gunshot wounds.
Most of the victims were said to be passengers who were waiting for night buses at the Total Filing Station along Ibadan-Ife road.
Trouble started on Sunday again at the iwo-road interchange when members suspected to the loyalists of Mukaila Lamidi a.k.a auxiliary led some groups allegedly dressed in army uniform to attack the Tokyo faction at the park.
The Abdulateef Akinsola a.k.a Tokyo faction which was still basking in the euphoria of its take-over was caught unawares and was said to have suffered greater casualties, while over 20 people lost their lives.Dangerous weapons including guns,machetes and charms were used freely by the raging rival members of the transport union.
The State's Commissioner of Police,Baba Adisa Bolanta who confirmed that four persons died said about 100 persons have been arrested in connection with the clash.Those who lost their lives were said to have been burnt to death in their vehicles.
