Former Managing Director of Afribank Plc, Mr. Sebastian Adigwe, and six others answering criminal charges of conspiracy and stealing of N87 billion belonging to the bank were, yesterday, admitted to bail on stiff conditions. They will have to get a N100 million bond to secure their freedom.
Apart from this, the defendants will also have to produce a surety who possess a landed property worth N100 million in Lagos with Certificate of Occupancy.
Those that were granted bail by an Ikeja High Court alongside Adigwe were Osa Osunde, Isa Zailani, Chinedu Onyia, Henry Arogundade and Peter Ololo. Additional bail conditions imposed on Adigwe and Ololo were that one of their sureties must be a member of board of director of a cooperate entity with headquarter in Lagos or Abuja, while the other must be in the employment of Federal or Lagos State government not below level 17 Grade.
The duo were also barred from traveling abroad pending the determination of the case and ordered to deposit their international passports with the court Registrar, and that they must report to the EFCC office in Lagos every first working day of the month. An officer of the anti-graft agency must verify the sureties.
However, while Adigwe and Ololo were subjected to N100 million bail condition, the trial Judge, Justice Olabisi Akinlade granted the 2nd defendant, Osa Osunde bail in the sum of N75 million with two sureties in like sum.
