Angry students of the Imo State University Owerri led a protest march to Government House, Owerri, demanding the immediate removal of one of their lecturers (names withheld) in the Economics Department.
The students alleged that the lecturer had formed the habit of selling his lecture notes to them at a very high price. The lecturer was also alleged to have stabbed a student with a knife when they protested the reduction of the duration of their examinations.
Receiving the students, the Deputy Governor, Jude Agbaso, praised them for the peaceful conduct of the protest and promised that government would look into their complaint.
He also asked them to set an example that would be emulated by other students in the country.
Also, the Secretary to the Government of Imo State, Prof. Anthony Anwuka, assured them that the state government would not tolerate any act of indiscipline or corrupt practices by any individual or group. He advised the students to remain calm while government took a decision on their complaint.
