President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday directed ministers to continue in office till new ones were appointed as the last Federal Executive Council meeting in the current administration held in Abuja.
Jonathan, who presided over the meeting, used the opportunity to thank the ministers as he had similarly done to his political appointees at a lunch he hosted for the ministers.
Minister of Information and Communication, Mr. Labaran Maku, who briefed State House correspondents, said the manner the President handled the meeting made it very exciting especially with novel manner. The ministers were asked to stay on till a new cabinet was formed.
“His leadership of the country since then, which culminated in the recent internationally acclaimed credible general elections, has restored the honour and dignity of Nigeria at home and abroad,” he said.
Maku noted that the humility of the President had not been well appreciated except by those privileged enough to have worked closely with him, adding that people were even more convinced now that handing the presidential mandate to him was not a mistake.
Maku assured Nigerians that no project initiated by the current administration would be stopped no matter who takes over from them as the fresh mandate of the President was akin to continuity.
He also called on all Nigerians to support the programme of Jonathan as he alone could not solve the problems of the country.
Minister of Aviation, Mrs. Fidelia Njeze, who briefed the press with Maku, described the air mishap of a Dornier aircraft in Kaduna on Tuesday as unfortunate explaining that it had gone for maintenance before it crashed.
