BARRING last minute changes, the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, will dissolve the current cabinet this week.
Precisely, by next Monday, the four year tenure of Lagos State cabinet will terminate with a valedictory session instead of the usual Executive Council Meeting at the State House, Alausa, Ikeja.
No fewer than 125 curriculum vitae, CVs, and representations had already been forwarded to Governor Fashola and prominent Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, leaders in the state for possible appointments into the state Executive Council.
It was gathered yesterday, that instead of the original arrangement in which the governor would have contributed a mere 20 percent of cabinet members, while party big wigs would have taken the lion share of 80 per cent, a new 50: 50 formula will now be used.
Fashola is said to be favourably disposed to picking technocrats as against other high powered interests who will pick party loyalists as compensation for their unalloyed support in the past four years as well as contribution to Fashola’s re-election.
The arrangement is still a top secret considering public perception of undue interference in Fashola’s government by party big names.
Infact, ACN’s national spokesman, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, told media sources that he was not aware that the next Lagos cabinet was already being put together.
He said: “I have no idea that the cabinet is being put together not to talk of the formula.”
The new executive members are expected to be sworn-in sometime in early June to allow for the continuation of transformation of the state.
As soon as Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared Fashola winner of the April 26, 2011 gubernatorial poll in Lagos, many political interests started visiting the state House, Marina, official residence of the governor and Bourdillon, Ikoyi residence of ACN national leader and former governor of Lagos State, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu to lobby for one position or the other.

good formular
ReplyDeletepolitics in all ramification is about formular, starting with desire uptill actual winning.however, i dont nor wont subscribe to the fact that bigwigs in a party will try to lord or manipulate and put stooges in positions that are highly sensitive.so,50-50 formular may as well be a way to start the process of complete or total control by the government in power.
