It is true that the sole objective of President Good luck Jonathan and the INEC is to present a template for a credible, free and fair elections in Nigeria. A pacesetter at that, aimed at re-orientating the mindset of the citizenry since the spate of corruption in a state can at best be judged through its electoral process. But these good intended objectives were made an illusion on Tuesday the 26th of April 2011 during the Governorship elections, where PDP members made it a point of duty to intimidate, maim and beat up people who tried to make sure the electoral guidelines are followed to the letter since that is the only way we could have achieved free and fair elections.
As a matter of fact, what happened on Tuesday 26th of April 2011 in ward 03- Joinkrama, Ahoada west LGA was rather an irony of a free, fair, credible and violence free election. The electoral officers came from the local government council with the electoral materials to the ward quite earlier and assembled at the collation centre in Isua- Joinkrama Ahoada west.
The ward collation agent for ACN, as well as the LGA party secretary of ACN in the local government by name comrade Ude- Lawson, a socio- political activist had to escort the materials along side the INEC staff for units 09 and 10 of that ward where he registered. Getting to the unit, comrade Ude- Lawson brought out his own copy of electoral guidelines in a bid to still conscientise the INEC Ad-hoc staff and the electorate, it was all well going but the PDP members who are inimical to the credible electoral process, in their usual corrupt mindset were not happy with the positive development, hence had to gang-up, haven been disenchanted with the fraudulent records they got in the National Assembly elections on the 9th of April 2011 and paid some village cult gangs to abduct comrade Ude- Lawson haven been perceived a potential stumbling block to their rigging antics so that he could be maimed and silenced in an isolated place. They were chanting in the process that it is only PDP agents that will be in the various polling units, and that no other party agents should be seen in the polling unit. As God would have it, concerned villagers of Ususu-Joinkrama were alerted and came to his rescue, but had already been beaten up. And since there was no security men on ground, he had to rush down to lay his report with the JTF Akinima Division Ahoada west. Some arrests were made including the leader of the cult gang by name Esaduvie Fyneface alias Pacino, others escaped in the process.
Subsequently, the LGA boss of Ahoada west Hon. Barr. Miller Awori intercepted the JTF patrol van close to their station in Akinima and started begging for their release, and were eventually released and set scot-free. All these attempts were made so that there will be a clear avenue for PDP to rig as usual. Of course the election was rigged in all the units in ward 03 and Engenni in general. They collected ballot papers in connivance with the INEC staff to thumbprint in their houses and brought them back systematically. What kind of society are we living in? where lives of innocent citizens and property are not secured. A society were hoodlums, thuggery are celebrated, where citizens are silenced to their right.
However, this serves as a clarion call to the entire security agencies in the country to live- up to their responsibilities so that the society where we all belong could be a peaceful place for all to live in. I further demand the re-arrest of the hoodlums and their sponsors, they should be made to face the wrath of the law as they cannot take the laws into their hands- it is a case of murder attempt!
