Over 5, 000 Nigerian citizens are reportedly stranded in Libya's capital Tripoli.
Many of them on Wednesday, gathered at the Libyan Airport in Tripoli waiting to be airlifted back to Nigeria by the federal government.
Also about 170 Nigerians were taken hostage by the Libyan army and taken to their barracks on Wednesday for reasons not yet known. They have apparently been released and are among the more than 5, 000 people at the airport waiting to be evacuated.
The Nigerian government, two weeks ago, ordered the federal ministry of foreign affairs to ensure that all Nigerians in Libya were moved out to protect their lives. The people evacuated on Monday brought the total number of evacuees since the crisis began, last month, to 1742. More efforts are being requested from NGO's and civil rights organizations as more Nigerians are stranded not only in Libya but in neighboring countries around Libya.
