An NYSC member, Louis Ngaka, has dragged a medical practitioner, Dr. Augustine Udo, to Eket High Court in Akwa Ibom, for prescribing, out of negligence, a banned drug to him.
Joined in the suit as second defendant is Rebecca Akpan, a nurse, who allegedly administered the drug, ANALGIN, on the plaintiff.
The youth corps member is claiming N50 million as general damages for the adverse effects he suffered from the use of the said drug.
Mr. Ngaka, a victim of a road traffic accident, was rushed to the Eket-based private clinic on December 3, 2010, where the drug was reportedly administered on him.
According to a writ of summons from Eket High Court, the plaintiff claimed that he had suffered the adverse reactions of the drug.
He alleged two fingers of his right hand were amputated following the adverse reactions from the banned drug, allegedly administered on him as an injection on his right arm.
The plaintiff also said that there might be an outright amputation of his right hand, thereby causing him permanent incapacity and disability in the use of his right hand.
NAN checks at Eket High Court showed that the case is among several pending matters because of the ongoing strike by the Akwa Ibom branch of Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria.
