UNKNOWN gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Friday abducted the owner of Treasure Island Furniture Limited and shot one person in the leg in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state capital.
The businessman, who is fondly called Mr. John by his business associates, was whisked away by three gunmen who arrived in his office in Nissan Sunny car.
Though the details of the abduction were still sketchy as at the time of filing this report, an eyewitness said the incident took place in John’s office along Ikot Ekpene road, Uyo.
The gunmen were said to have disguised as customers, but on gaining entry into his office and siting him, they shot severally into the air in order to scare away passersby.
The eyewitness added that the kidnappers dragged John out of his office and locked him in the boot of their car before heading for an unknown destination.
The motive behind the abduction remained unknown as at the time our correspondent visited the office as no member of staff of the company was willing to give relevant information.
When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Onyeka Orji, said he would confirm the incident from the anti-kidnapping squad and get back to our correspondent.
