Briefing newsmen on the development, yesterday, in Port Harcourt, Director of the SSS in the state, Mr Douglas Dogo, said the Special Adviser was arrested for allegedly threatening the Governor through text messages.
To conceal his identity, the Governor’s aide reportedly used the phones of his female friends. According to the SSS boss, the Governor initially ignored the threats but when the messages started coming too frequently, he had to call the attention of the SSS, which tracked the numbers to arrest owners of the phones. The girls on their part did not hesitate to give out the identity of the aide as the one behind the threat messages.
The Security Chief said the Special Adviser was already in the custody of the SSS and will be prosecuted accordingly.
On the nature of messages, the SSS boss, who spoke through his Assistant Director, Operations and Intelligence, Mr Kunle Ajanaku, said the SA said if the Governor failed to carry out certain undisclosed actions bordering on lecturers of the Rivers state University of Science and Technology and those of the state University of Education, who have been on strike for close to a session, he would be dealt with.
He said the girls, who are students of the University of Porth Harcourt had since been released when it was confirmed that they were not aware of what the SA used their phones to do.
Also, the security body paraded three internet fraudsters, who had duped over 70 prospective job seekers of several millions of Naira. They operated six different accounts with which they swindled their victims. According to the SSS, the fraudsters through the internet claimed to be conducting employment for Shell, a multinational oil firm.
Job seekers were made to pay specific sum into the various accounts. And about seventy persons had been duped including some corps members. However they met their waterloo when Shell according to the security chief raised alarm over fake employment allegedly being conducted by someone who posed as Manager of the Human Resource department of the oil giant.
The SSS said they had to stop operation of the accounts through a court order. And it was through this process that one of the syndicate members was arrested. Some of those duped according to the SSS allegedly paid over N150,000 into the accounts.
