The Action Congress of Nigeria on Friday alleged that President Goodluck Jonathan had bowed to pressure to influence the arrest of a former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
The party, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in Abuja, said that the plot was part of the efforts of the Peoples Democratic Party to thwart its alliance with the Congress for Progressive Change.
It added that the PDP was bent on silencing Tinubu and the opposition ahead of the general elections.
But the Goodluck/Sambo Campaign Organisation, in a statement by its Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Sully Abu, dismissed the allegation.
The group condemned the recent penchant of politicians to broadcast total fabrications in the garb of ‘revelations.’
It called on the security agencies to investigate the allegation, adding that no amount of blackmail would distract the President.
The PDP National Chairman, Dr. Okwelisieze Nwodo, through his media aide, Ike Abonyi, said that the party was not interested in rumours.
He said, “If Tinubu feels he has nothing to hide, he should not fear. As an expert in court matters, he can go to court.”
But the ACN alleged, ”We can now tell you that President Jonathan seems to have finally succumbed to pressure by signing on to the plan.
“Now we have it on good authority that a minister is being put under tremendous pressure to look for any offence, no matter how flimsy, to get Tinubu arrested and prosecuted – just to put him away.
