Adekunle Ajasin university closed

The students at the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State on Wednesday protested against the decision of the school management to stop some of them who had not paid their school fees, from taking the continuous assessment test.

The university authority had earlier announced the enforcement of ‘no payment of school fees, no test/examination’ policy which would debar many of the students from doing the test.

During the protest on Wednesday, the angry students in their large number disrupted academic activities on the campus of the university.

It was gathered that the students also stopped the ongoing continuous assessment test and sent all the students out of the classrooms.

One of the protesters said, “The university on Wednesday did not allow the students who were yet to pay or balance their school fees to take continuous assessment test and many of the students were sent out.

“We then had a very massive protest against the university management where all academic activities were grounded.”

Following the protest, the university management ordered all the students to vacate the campus with immediate effect.

In a statement issued by the Registrar of the institution, Dr Sunday Ayeerun, the varsity asked all students to vacate the campus and resume on Monday, May 20, 2019.

The statement read in part, “The management of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, has approved a mid-semester break for all students of the university.”

“All students of the university are, therefore, advised to proceed on the mid-semester break with immediate effect. Students are to resume to campus on Monday, May 20, 2019.”
