Kaduna Killings: Displaced residents protest in Abuja

Hundreds of Kaduna State residents on Tuesday protested in Abuja against the incessant killings in the Kajuru Local Government Area of the state, saying over 10,000 persons had been rendered homeless by the violence.

The protesters, led by a group, Coalition Against Kajuru Killings, moved from the Unity Peace Fountain, inward Maitama, asking the federal and state governments to stop the violence and arrest the perpetrators.

The coordinator of the coalition, Rev. Father Williams Abba, said the death toll in Kajuru community was increasing daily and no fewer than 10,000 displaced persons presently lived in four different camps.


Abba said, “It is our belief that powerful retrogressive forces are funding these well-coordinated militia who come in and strike at our sleepy and peaceful communities and retreat without consequences.

“The government should deploy more security forces in the hinterlands, as well as consistent aerial surveillance to track the terrorists and consequently end the carnage.

“The government should provide adequate health care for the injured and food and shelter for the victims. We plead with the agencies of government to intervene in the humanitarian crisis that the killings have caused.

“We call on the Federal Government to set up a panel to probe Kajuru killings, including exhumation of Fulani corpses, if any, in order to bring perpetrators to justice.”
