Different reactions have trailed
the GoFundMe account set up to raise funds for Atiku Abubakar’s legal battle
against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP) candidate is challenging the outcome of the presidential election.
After Atiku filed a suit seeking
the court to order the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) allow
him access electoral materials, there were reports that an account had been set
up to raise funds for the PDP candidate.
But Phrank Shaibu, one of Atiku’s
media aides, dissociated the presidential candidate from the account, saying:
“We are not in any way connected to it but we consider it as a purely private
initiative of the promoters.”
The account has been taken down
but before then, there were some social media reactions. Find some of them
below:

They started a competition filming beggers from Northern Nigeria, humiliating them, asking them to 'go and beg from your Hausa Fulani @MBuhari— Kayode Ogundamisi (@ogundamisi) 6 March 2019
Now they are BEGGING on @gofundme for @atiku a multi-billionaire Hausa-Fulani and you still wonder why the poor DID not vote @atiku? pic.twitter.com/YZjPQFv20Q
Yahoo baba tried to use @gofundme to chop $100k from magas under guise of #EndSARS claimed his address is somewhere in Colorado, same person claiming he’s in Washington DC, now using same @gofundme to chop $100k under guise of @atiku’s court case. pic.twitter.com/nc6fD4VQB4— Mr. Aye Dee (@MrAyeDee) 6 March 2019
I know that Atiku Abubakar is self sufficient, so I'm not donating to GoFundMe because of him. I'm donating because of my future. If we don't fight the shenanigans of APC and INEC, it will consume our years of labour for democracy.— Alhaji Table Breaker (@yemi_adebowale) 6 March 2019

Defraud Goodluck Jonathan.— KUKUTE 🇳🇬NextLevel (@Ade_Nurayn) 7 March 2019
Defraud Dankwambo.
Defraud Mimiko.
Defraud Saraki.
Defraud Atiku.
Now they've created a gofundme account to defraud Nigerians (the perpetually gullible ones).
Criminals.
Atiku is not poor and can NEVER be poor. Go and pay ur junior ones school fees, big boy and girl. Leave fake Gofundme for Atiku. Help ur family first b4 u will help a billionaire. Pay ur house rent ooo b4 u will pay Atiku’s legal fees— Woye (@woye1) 6 March 2019
Looks as if @segalink has caught the PEDS (Post Election Defeat Syndrome) virus .— eguando tone jeff (@teguando1) 6 March 2019
We should quicky raise a GoFundMe for his treatment before it gets out of hand.
Doubt if he made enough money from @atiku , to survive him for three years before campaign kicks off for 2023 😂😂😂

Ladies and gentlemen, @atiku is so broke he needs the services of Segafraud to raise a GoFundMe account to "defend his stolen mandate"— Taye Paul Olubayo, MFR (@UNILAG_EFIWE) 6 March 2019

The symbol and champion of the cause is Atiku but this is about our generational stake in democracy.
Standing with him is standing with the mandate of Nigerians and a noble quest to get this country working again. pic.twitter.com/faXIt5KkWj
This Fraudulent Lilliputian midget, @segalink, is out to scam you people again.— Adebayo Bankole Akintunde (@AdeBanqie) 6 March 2019
A Gofundme link for Atiku???
Donate at your own risk but don't come here to rant when your eyes clear.
A word is enough. pic.twitter.com/f1PvdFiQuM

We await the next trick from the #DubaiStrategy book.
Buhari really wasted our resources; material and Human Resources; he has ruined many intellectuals.— Somto Onuchukwu (@chosensomto) 6 March 2019
They’re angry that well meaning Nigerians are donating to Atiku’s legal fees at the tribunal via Gofundme .
This is a form of protest against the sham elections! #IStandWithAtiku
If you set a GoFundMe Account for Buhari with a 100k Target, it will be met in 2 hours. That’s for the record. Buhari supporters wants to give Buhari, not the other way round. All Atiku supporters want from him. 😩— Mu'awiyyah Muye (@MP_Muye) 6 March 2019
Those opening a GoFundMe for @atiku are scammers, I once sent close 2 a million Naira for a campaign to one of those behind it, he chopped the money, cleaned mouth and I never heard a word about it again. I didn’t say anything because it’s not that serious, however, caveat emptor— Mr. Aye Dee (@MrAyeDee) 6 March 2019
Dear @Ikwerreman,— Temisan Okomi (@temiokomi) 6 March 2019
You can't be supporting Atiku by mouth only. There is a GoFundMe for his appeal in a creditable court. The stolen mandate must be retrieved!!
Contact Sega for details.
He is quite honest pic.twitter.com/LjZB4em9gW
Don't get carried away by that GoFundMe gimmick by @segalink. It's a fraud.— Otams Princewill (@otamssweet) 6 March 2019
It's a strategy intended to make @atiku look the 'victim', as he and his goons undertake the failed attempts at discrediting the elections.
We know them.
