APC plots to invade Adamawa with thugs, PDP alleges

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa state has accused the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of plotting to hire thugs from Kano and Kaduna to disrupt Thursday’s election in the state.

A statement signed by the state PDP chairman, Barrister Tahir Shehu and made available to Daily Trust on Wednesday said the party had information about the alleged plan by the APC to hire thugs from Kaduna and Kano states to disrupt the election.

“But we were reliably informed and we verily believed that APC government in Adamawa state were boasting that H.E. Gov. Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state and H.E. Governor Ganduje of Kano state respectively promised to assist them with thugs to invade Adamawa state with a view to manipulating the process of the re-run to ensure victory at their side at all cost”, the statement read.

The statement, therefore, advised voters to remain calm and ensure they exercise their right to vote the candidate of their choice.

In a swift reaction, the APC Publicity Secretary in the state, Muhammad Abdullahi, said the statement had exposed the evil plot of the PDP towards the election.

“God has exposed them; they are telling Adamawa people what they want to do. As a party, we never used thugs but the PDP has that history of using violence just the way Rivers State governor publicly said anybody assigned to work in the state will not leave the state alive if he did not do the governor’s bidding. We have no state other than Adamawa, so we pray for peace”, he stated.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the supplementary election for Thursday following the discharge of a court order restraining the commission from conducting the election by Justice Abdul-Azeez Waziri of Adamawa State High Court.
