ISWAP releases 2 women after governor’s convoy attack, to marry off others Thursday

The Islamic State in West African Province, ISWAP, the international affiliate of the Boko Haram terror outfit has released two women amongst those taken during the ambush of the Borno State governor’s convoy along Dikwa and Gamboru Ngala highway on February 12, 2019.

The two women, who were said to have been released on Sunday, however, came with a message from the terrorists’ group that other women with them are going to be married off on Thursday.

The women who came into the state capital on Monday with the message from Boko Haram, also said the group have many fighters, both young and old and are in control of the vast land between Dikwa and Gamboru-Ngala in Borno state northeast Nigeria.

“There are a lot of us women, men, both young and middle aged. The militants have killed some of the men and young boys they took. We (women) were kept in smaller group, but they kept rotating us around the vast empty land until Friday, when they asked that the two of us leave. They showed us the road to follow and asked us to relate their message to the authorities that on Thursday they are going to get all the women married,” One of the women who identified herself as Fatima said.

The Boko Haram group has continued its audacious assaults in the North-East, with a recent attack at Gajigana, in northern Borno and Buni Yadi in Yobe State.

The group had claimed casualty figures of 42 persons, and the abduction of several women during the attack on the Borno State governor’s convoy, but the government has denied this, stating that only three persons were killed when the convoy was attacked.

On the abduction, however, the government has remained mum since the incident occurred.
