INEC released excess result sheets to encourage rigging - Ekiti PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State on Sunday accused the Independent National Electoral Commission in the state of providing for electoral fraud in last Saturday’s rescheduled presidential and National Assembly elections by releasing excess polling units result sheets, Form EC8A.

PDP State Chairman, Gboyega Oguntuwase, alleged that, “The excess were more than two times the number of polling units in Ekiti State.

“This is to say that each of the polling units in Ekiti State had more than one result sheet.

“This is a clear manifestation of INEC’s intention to rig the election by using the excess result sheets to enter fake results for the All Progressives Congress.”

Oguntuwase, who spoke at a press conference at Afao Ekiti, said: “Ekiti PDP is worried concerning the late withdrawal/return of electoral materials for House of Representatives dispatched on Friday, February 15, before the postponement of the general elections by INEC as well as disparities in the materials brought by the electoral commission.

“It should be recalled that only materials for the conduct of House of Representatives election were brought to Ekiti State as at 9am on Friday and distributed. Those meant for the presidential and senatorial elections did not get to the state until the wee hours of Saturday.

Curiously, materials for House of Representatives election were not complete. No result sheets for Ward (Form EC8B) and Local Government (EC8C) as well as result sheets for final collation (Form EC8D) and announcement of final results (Form EC8E).

But INEC’s Ekiti State spokesperson, Taiwo Gbadegesin, who dismissed the allegations, said elections materials arrived the state and were distributed accordingly, adding, “We had since Saturday retrieved the materials.

“On Saturday morning, we dispatched vehicles and security men to all parts and retrieved the materials. We had since returned the ballot papers and result sheets to the Central Bank of Nigeria, while the card readers are at our office for reconfiguration in view of the new date for the rescheduled elections.”

The PDP chairman alleged that boasts by some APC chiefs that they were in custody of the electoral materials compelled his party to raise alarm over alleged INEC refusal to comply with the directive to retrieve the materials and deposit them with the CBN.

Oguntuase said: “Consequently, we are demanding that we be allowed by INEC and CBN to double-check all the electoral materials, more particularly the sensitive materials.”
