BREAKING NEWS: Huge Shock In Nigeria, INEC Postpones Presidential Election

As Nigerians plan to wake up to go queue up in the presidential polls today, many will stumble to the shocking news as the country's electoral body, The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has decided to shift Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections till next week 23 February.

NigerianEye monitored the announcement live at about 2:50 AM today (16th February, 2019)

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu,
It was one of the decisions reached early today in a crunch talk between INEC chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu and 12 national commissioners in Abuja, according to sources close to the meeting.

The chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who read a five-paragraph statement by 2:50 am on Saturday morning attributed the decision to logistic reasons, but refused to entertain any question.

He said,
“The Independent National Electoral Commission met on Friday, February 15, 2019, and reviewed its preparations for the 2019 General Elections scheduled for Saturday, February 16 2019 and Saturday, March 2 2019.

“Following a careful review of the implementation of its logistics and operational plan and the determination to conduct free, fair and credible elections, the commission came to the conclusion that proceeding with the elections as scheduled is no longer feasible.

“Consequently, the commission has decided to reschedule the Presidential and National Assembly Elections to Saturday, February 23 2019. Furthermore, the Governorship, State House of Assembly and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council Elections is rescheduled to Saturday, March 9 2019. This will afford the commission the opportunity to address identified challenges in order to maintain the quality of our elections.

“This was a difficult decision for the commission to take, but necessary for the successful delivery of the elections and the consolidation of our democracy.

“The commission will meet key stakeholders to update them on this development at 2pm on Saturday 16 (today) February 2019 at the Abuja International Conference Centre.”

  1. Hahaaaaa what is wrong in Nigeria? What is wrong with Nigeria? Can't we do something fantastically timely right as nigerians with all of the intellectuals we have? INEC as so called had a whole of at least three and half years to get ready and prepare for this election and we are saying that there are some reasons why the election should be postponed? And to make matters worse, the cancellation or postponement as called had to be announced at 2 a.m. at night while the people were sleeping, after so many people had cancelled their schedules and appointments. Three and half years not enough to plan for a free and fair election in the country so called the leader in Africa? In what is it that Nigeria is leading? If this is how leaders do, then we have a lot of problems in our hands. This is a disgrace, a big one for that matter. If three and half years is not enough for us to plan and execute a free and fair election, how is a week of postponement going to be enough for such an election? SOMETHING IS WRONG, SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH THIS SYSTEM in Nigeria. IT IS NOT WORKING !!! NOT WORKING AT ALL !!! And after this, there is going to be an allegation of rigging and ballot boxes stuffed up with pre-printed PVCs and so on and so forth. Nigeria we hail thee. God bless Nigeria and the truth is, it is only God that can change Nigeria through Jesus Christ. Tanx a lot and be blessed inJesusChristname. As usual, the same RADEO 02162019.

    1. One thing is clear,is either he is sincere or he did it at gun point. If he is sincere, he got the timing very wrong and has failed as such. If it's at gun point, he has failed too. He should have stood his ground, his name would gone down the history as a hero of Nigeria democracy. Either way, he should step aside, this is a clear sign of corrupt official

  2. Nothing is absolutely wrong with Nigeria but with individuals running the affairs of the country. The INEC chairman is a "Prof" and he has shown the type of prof he is. Before now he told plainly shift the election and get yourself ready well, but he kept shouting I am ready, I am ready. Haba prof
