Armed bandits kill commercial driver along Birnin Gwari Highway


Armed Bandits in the early hours of Friday opened fire on a commercial vehicle along Birnin Gwari – Kaduna highway killing the driver instantly.


The 30-year-old driver ‎Muhammadu Lawal Sulaiman was hit with a bullet in the head and died at the spot.


‎The incident happened close to Unguwar Yako village closed to Udawa town along the highway around 7: am.


One of the passengers in the vehicle who didn’t want his name mentioned told our reporter that he was sitting in front with the deceased when the bandits opened fire on the moving car.



 “We were 10 in the Gulf 3 car on our way to Kano when we heard gunshots. They opened fire on the car and in the process, they hit the driver on the head. We didn’t know that he was hit not until the vehicle stopped inside the bush and we all ran out of the car to save our lives,” he said.


He said the bandits were about seven in number and were holding dangerous guns when they attacked them.


It was gathered that the victim died inside the car and was taken back to Udawa for burial.


A Senior member of local vigilante at Udawa town Hussaini also said ‎the Late driver has been buried according to Islamic rights as he calls for more security along the highway.



The state Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Yakubu Sabo couldn’t be reached and neither did he reply a text message sent to his phone.
