Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin
Welby has spoken on the postponed general election by the Independent National
Electoral Commission, INEC, in Nigeria.
Welby in a post on Tuesday on his
verified Twitter page prayed that Nigeria will experience a free and fair
election following new date for the presidential election.
The Archbishop also urged
presidential candidates from different political parties to accept election
results by INEC after the electoral process.
His tweet read: “Today I join
with Nigerians to pray for peaceful, free, credible, transparent & fair
elections on the new dates.
“May participants be able to
accept the result and may their great and gifted nation find peace, prosperity,
security and hope for all citizens.”
Recall that the INEC Chairman had
on Saturday, few hours before the polls, announced that Presidential election
will now hold on Feb. 23rd, while governorship election will hold on March 9.
The development has since
received scorns from Nigerians and the international community.
