APC ‘knocks out’ PDP senator arrested on election eve


Rafiu Ibrahim, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senator arrested on the eve of the election, has lost his bid to retain Kwara south seat in the senate.

Lola Ashiru of the All Progressives Congress (APC) garnered 89 704 votes to defeat Ibrahim who polled 45,176 votes.

Sylvia Malom, the returning officer for the election, while declaring the result at the Irepodun local government secretariat in Omu-Aran, said the total number of registered voters were 432,499, total valid votes as 136,889, total number of rejected votes as 3,119 and total number of votes cast as 140,006.


Ibrahim is currently the chairman of the senate committee on banking. He was arrested following an outbreak of violence which led to loss of lives.
