Hamisu Mijinyawa, chairman of the
All Progressives Congress (APC) in Demsa local government area of Adamawa
state, has been kidnapped.
Othman Abubakar, spokesman of the
state police command, disclosed this to TheCable on Wednesday, saying efforts
were in place to secure his release.
Mark Dauda, an official of the
APC in the state, said Mijinyawa was abducted on Wednesday few hours to the
flag-off of the governorship campaign in the local government.
He said the kidnappers have made
contacts with the party and are demanding a ransom of N20 million.
“The chairman was picked in his
house in Demsa around 1:00am last night, but we’re talking, we’re negotiating
his release,” Dauda said.
“They’ve demanded N20 million
ransom, that’s all I can tell you for now.”
The development comes 24 hours
after Donatus Nwankpa, chairman of the APC in Abia state, was kidnapped by
unknown gunmen few hours before President Muhammadu Buhari arrived the state to
flag off his campaign.
