National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic
Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, has warned that the arrest harassment and
intimidation of PDP members ahead of Thursday’s rerun election in Osun state is
a recipe for anarchy.
Prince Secondus said that the All
Progressives Congress, APC, has in conjunction with the Police and the
Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, devised a means to frustrate
our members and tilt the result the way of the APC.
A statement signed by his media
adviser, Ike Abonyi, noted that report reaching him shows that the APC being
unable to dissuade the voting Osun people to toe their line has resulted to the
use of force to muzzle the people by arresting and intimidating them.
He said: “Since last Sunday, our
flag bearer, Senator Ademola Adeleke’s life has been in danger as he receives
all kinds of threat from agents of government and the APC.”
Secondus reiterated the earlier
call of the party that the Chairman of the electoral body, Prof Mahmoud Yakubu
and National Commissioner Amina Zakari must resign and leave the commission if
there would ever be free, fair and credible election in 2019.
He also decried the brazing
involvement of security agencies in aiding and abating APC in an election where
the people already have spoken by rejecting the APC.
The PDP boss warned that “the
continuous involvement of the military and other security agencies in an
election is designed by the APC to thwart the will of the people and it is
going to be a recipe for violence and anarchy”
“APC’S desperation to prevent the
people of Osun state from accomplishing their heart desire of throwing away the
failed APC administration will run counter to the will of the people of Osun
and it would fail.
“PDP will resist all devious
attempts to deny the party of an already earned victory in Osun state”
