NPC offers 4,000 centres to make more Nigerians opt for PVC registration

The National Population Commission has offered its 4,000 centres nationwide to the Independent National Electoral Commission for the ongoing Permanent Voter Cards registration.

NPC said that the offer was to make sure that more Nigerians who had yet to register with INEC because of distance barrier would have the opportunity to obtain their PVCs ahead of the elections.

The National Chairman of the NPC, Eze Duruiheoma (SAN), who spoke in a keynote address he delivered at a Public Enlightenment Forum organised by the Orluzurumee Youth Assembly in Imo state on Friday, noted that the NPC had a “great” role to play in making sure that the 2019 elections were successful.

Duruiheoma, who spoke on the theme, “One man, one vote: Getting your Permanent Voter Card — The role of the National Population Commission,” said that the 774 centres provided by INEC for PVC registration were not enough.

He listed high level of political apathy, low civic education, logistics and integrity as some of the challenges of voter registration in Nigeria.

He said since the NPC was saddled with the responsibility of getting the data of people in the country, it would collaborate with the INEC to make the 2019 elections hitch-free.
