Bola Tinubu, national leader of
the All Progressives Congress (APC), has lamented that the party “is almost
dormant at the grassroots level.”
He made this observation while
commending the large turn out of members during the Saturday’s nationwide
congress.
Tinubu said the congresses across
the country were the best way to “energize the party.”
In a statement issued by his
spokesperson, Tunde Rahman, the APC chieftain said the peaceful exercise was an
indication that the ruling party believes in the tenets of democracy.
He said the congresses were
transparent, adding that things went as planned.
Tinubu said the APC through its
congresses showed the world that it was a law-abiding political party.
He said, “They queue up behind
whoever they want, no pre-ordained candidate. The turn-out was very impressive.
The membership of the party is growing in leaps. We are open to all democrats
who want to identify with us.
“This is one of the best ways to
energize the party that is almost remaining dormant at the grassroots level and
you could see the sense of belonging and the energy and activities of the
ordinary people. It is a great joy for me.
“Until the various officials who are here to
conduct the congresses write their reports, my own admonition is to continue to
appeal to our party members to conduct themselves peacefully and to comply with
the rule of law.”
