The Senator representing, Rivers
South-East Senatorial District, Senator Magnus Abe has declared his intention
to run in the 2019 governorship race in Rivers State.
Abe’s declaration comes against
persistent call for a Riverine governor in 2019 by the leader of the All
Progressives Congress, APC, in the state, Rotimi Amaechi.
The Senator made his declaration
at the launching of his campaign office at GRA, Port Harcourt.
He said his decision though
against the advice of friends and party leaders, was aimed at encouraging
continuity in governance of the State.
The Chairman, Senate committee on
FERMA warned that the party will break into more factions if the people were
not allowed to participate for the congresses, stressing that he and his
supporters will not accept hotel congresses.
“I have decided in the interest
of our state, in the interest of our people, I have decided to pick the
nomination of the All Progressive Congress to run for the office of the
Governor.
“And in doing so, I want to make
it abundantly clear that this is not a gunshot ambition,” he said.
Senator Abe also said he had
uncovered an already prepared list for the National Congress of the APC by some
leaders of the Party in the state.
