BRT severs school boy’s head while crossing lane

Tragedy struck in the early hours of today when the driver of Bus Rapid Transit, BRT, crushed and severed the head of a yet to be identified school pupil at Ogolonto Bus stop, along Ikorodu Road.


The incident subsequently, resulted in chaotic traffic gridlock as sympathisers and passers-by trooped to the scene, amid wailing and crying.

According to eyewitness, Mr. Akin Adeolu, the incident happened at about 7. 45 am, when pupils were rushing to their various schools for usual activities.

The tragedy occurred when the school boy said to be of about 13 years old was trying to dash across the BRT corridor at ever busy Ogolonto Bus stop. Unfortunately, the fast moving bus suddenly, hit the boy and cut off his head from the rest of his body which triggered commotion in the area.

It was gathered that the pupil mis-calculated the flag man’s signal who usually control traffic in the area for pedestrians to cross as he beat the signal to dash across tge BRT lane which he never made it out alive

The driver of the BRT bus was said to have taken to his heels immediately, for fear of possible mob action against him.

According to Adeolu, at press time, men of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, and other security agencies were on ground to maintain law and order reign in the area while men of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency, LASTMA, were drafted to ensure free flow of traffic.

Official s of the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit, LASEHMU have been contacted to take the remains of the lifeless body of the pupil to mortuary.

Meantime, official of Primero Transport company, owner and operator of the BRT buses who spoke on anonymity, confirm Rd the incident saying, “We have commenced initial investigation into the ugly incident to determine the cause for further action.

“However, we commiserate with the family and colleagues of the deceased, God will give them the fortitude to bear the loss.”
