Samuel Ortom, governor of Benue
state, says despite the presence of the military in Benue, “over one million”
cows have flooded the state.
Ortom said this on Monday when he
led Paul Enenche, senior pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, to the
cemetery of the 73 persons killed in the state in January.
The military recently launched
Ayem Akpatuma exercise in seven states, including Benue, to tackle the clashes
between farmers and herdsmen.
Hundreds of troops were deployed
in the state when the exercise was launched last week.
“We appreciate president Buhari
for the deployment of soldiers to keep the peace,” Ortom said.
“But our concern is the influx of
over one million cows into the state despite the presence of the military.”
The governor added that at least
60 persons have been killed in the state since the mass burial of the 73
persons.
He appealed to the military to
flush out the invaders so that the over 160,000 displaced people camps could
return to their homes.
