Benue: Anxiety in Gwer West LG as herdsmen issue notice of attack

Suspected Fulani herdsmen have reportedly issued a notice of attack to some communities in Benue State.

Tribune reports that a threat letter was delivered to one of the communities in Gwer West Local Government Area on Friday.

The situation forced residents of Adaka community in Makurdi, a boundary area with Gwer to flee their homes.

But the Police said security had been beefed up in the area.

Spokesman of the Benue Police Command, Moses Yamu, who confirmed the development, said the state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, had led officers and men to the area for on-the-spot information and assessment.

He added that police units are currently in strategic parts of Gwer to douse tension.

On Thursday, three persons were confirmed killed following an attack on Tsokwa village in Anyii, Logo Local Government Area of Benue.

Chairman of Logo local government, Nyajo Richard, said attackers suspected to be herdsmen stormed the village in large number, shooting at different directions.
