Protesting Delta communities shut down Heritage Warri office

One hundred and ten communities under the aegis of host communities of Nigeria (Oil&Gas) in a peaceful protest on Tuesday, January 23, defied the heavy presence of security operatives as they shut down the Edjeba-Warri office of the Heritage Operational Energy Services Limited, OML30 Bloc, for bringing a house boat with naval personnel to their communities without their knowledge and for allegedly giving the contract to the Navy to their detriments.

The communities are also protesting the company’s failure to provide scholarships for indigent students as well as make payments for the ones awarded before 2016 when it stopped finally.

No car was allowed to go in and come out of the former Shell Edjeba office.

Security Operatives including the Spy police and mobile police were left very helpless as the communities made their points.

The Financial Secretary of Oteghele community in Warri South Local Government Area, Mr. Benike Geoffrey claimed that Heritage Operational Energy Services Limited OML30 Bloc brought in a house boat into the community without informing them.

Geoffrey said the company allegedly gave contract supply jobs in the house boat to the navy without considering the indigenous contractors.

Geoffrey noted that the communities approached the company about the development but they were told that the house boat business is between the company and the navy.

As at the time of filing this report, management of the company were in a meeting with leaders of the community who are seriously aggrieved.
