Nigerians react to arrest of Babachir Lawal, say action meant to divert attention from Obasanjo’s letter

President Muhammadu Buhari has been accused of diverting Nigerians’ attention from the current challenges, particularly the recent letter by former president, Olusegun Obasanjo.

Nigerians on social media are of the opinion that the arrest of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal was intentionally carried out to divert attention from the main issue of bad governance.

It had been reported that the former SGF was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Wednesday .

Reacting, however, some Nigerians on social have linked the ex-SGF’s arrest to Obasanjo’s letter, describing Babachir’s arrest as a reawakening force as well as a charade to cover up Buhari’s failures listed by the former president.

They have also reminded the government on Maina’s pending issue, fuel scarcity and herdsmen killings, asking President Buhari to take appropriate action.

Here are some comments…

@OSascruz “So EFFC just arrested and detained Babachir Lawal !! Obasanjo’s letter is working effectively. Please Sir we need more letters from you. This APC govt is so fake, even a blind can see how fake they are. We knew they were going to make a distraction from OBJ’s letter. So time to arrest Babachir.

@Ogbenidipo “Babachir Lawal has been arrested and detained by EFCC, just one day after Obasanjo’s letter.

@tokwilla This government has come again with distraction to cover up OBJ’s letter. Kai, PMB won’t stop amusing me .These guys working for the president are movie stars and always come up with a new release each time they goof to cover up their incompetence

@edzede What a charade. Coming just after Baba’s letter. What about #MainaGate… #$50billionNNPC not remitted etc…

@Tenoverten “So Babachir Lawal is going to be the sacrificial lamb just to save face,or it’s just a diversionary tactics and will be released tomorrow.Government of bunch of clowns

@tony “EFCC arrested Babachir Lawal for fraud to divert attention from Obasanjo letter, we are waiting for Maina arrest

@tunjiadeniran Is it a coincidence that Babachir Lawal was invited by EFCC barely 24 hours after OBJ scathing letter to President Buhari?

@noble “He does not like being in a haste to react to issues but it took them barely 24hrs to respond to Obasanjo’s open letter. If only they responded with this same speed on: Herdsmen,Babachir Lawal, benue killings,Fuel scarcity,Maina’s recall.

@ebubec “Knee Jerk. So predictable, as soon as OBJ writes he is arrested. I hope OBJ letter will push them to arrest the herdsmen. Let’s see how important 2019 elections is for them.

@sammypam This government is obviously run by clowns who think majority of Nigerians are daft. Suddenly the President has been able to read the report on Babachir Lawal submitted to him a long time ago. Are we expecting Maina’s arrest as well tomorrow

@ayorinde “OBJ awaking letter seriously effective as nobody ready to call this monster government to order, hence abuse of power! Let us see how it goes, Nigerians are watching…..

@isaacibonu in the next few days they will release some chibok girls to divert our attention from obj letter…..just watch out

@christian “This is another plot to take Nigerians mind away from the Obj letter saga. My country my country

@stevedemeze “We know that this government of propaganda and lies will play a prank. This is an afterthought; either Obasanjo’s letter has started working or this is a smokescreen to deceive Nigerians. @MBuhari is blinded by nepotism and he condones corruption.
