2019: Delta slams Oshiomhole, says APC brought hardship

The Delta State Government on Sunday berated the immediate past governor of Edo State, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, over his alleged comment that the All Progressives Congress would extend its coast in the South-South by installing an APC governor in Delta State.

Oshiomhole had during a mega rally of the APC held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin, Edo State on Friday, said the ruling APC would extend its coast in the South-South by installing an APC governor in Delta State.

Oshiomhole reportedly said, “Together, we will sweep whatever is left out of Edo State and Delta. Comrades, we have secured Edo State, now we must advance to Delta. In the spirit of Bendel, which was governed by the late Samuel Ogbemudia, we must carry more brooms to Asaba and sweep all the way to Warri and install an APC governor in Asaba, so that the resources of Asaba can be used for the benefit of Deltans.”

But a statement signed by the Delta State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Patrick Ukah, flayed the choice and use of words by the former Edo State governor.

The commissioner said, “The choice of words, especially the use of ‘by installing’ by the former labour leader is a manifestation of his limited knowledge of politics as against unionism where he claims to be a master.

“We’re surprise that Comrade Oshiomhole, who is a leader of a party that has brought untold hardship to Nigerians, will be talking of installing a governor in a state that is not his own, instead of suggesting ways of how to make living bearable for Nigerians.

“With the numerous developmental projects going on in various parts of the state, Deltans are satisfied with the performance of the present administration and this was made manifest by the resounding victory recorded by the Peoples’ Democratic Party in the recently conducted local government election in Delta State. “

Ukah advised the former governor to concentrate on helping the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC government to save Nigeria from the hardship currently being faced by Nigerians across the country rather than saving his energy to pursue election he would never win in Delta.

He added, “We advised the former Governor to first join hands with others in his party to put their house in order by conducting a successful national convention that is long overdue instead of engaging in a wild goose chase.”
