Fani-Kayode attacks Sultan of Sokoto for defending hijab

Femi Fani-Kayode, former Aviation Minister, on Monday berated the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III for defending the wearing of hijab by Muslim women.

The former Minister said if the monarch can champion the fight against child marriage and pedophilia with the same zeal he is fighting the cause for hijab, the North will be a better place.

In a series of tweets via his social media handle, Fani-Kayode insisted that wearing of hijab is not a sign of women liberation.

He maintained that the wearing of hijab is a “Pavlovian reaction and a conditioned response.”

Fani-Kayode wrote: “If the Sultan of Sokoto would champion the fight against child marriage and pedophilia in the same way and with the same zeal that he is fighting for and championing the cause of those who wish to wear the hijab, the north would be a much better and safer place for little girls.

“Wearing the hijab is not evidence of women’s liberation and neither is it borne out of free will.

“It is a Pavlovian reaction and a conditioned response. It is also an eloquent testimony and ugly reminder of the suffering, servitude, repression, bondage and humiliation of women.”

Recall that the monarch had over the weekend faulted the decision of the Nigerian Law School to deny one Miss Amasa Firdaus call to bar for refusing to remove her hijab worn under her wig.

  3. There are Muslim women who are chief judge and justices, but u will never see them wear the hijab under their wig. A foolish girl from no where just decide to cause trouble with the hijab whereas she knows the law and some fools are supporting her. If that be d case, let all celestial church members who are judges walk bare- footed too na. Yeye country. We just need to separate religion from the State for Nigeria to move forward.

  5. Now we can all see why South East is asking for division of Nigeria. If the North and Muslims want their women to wear whatever they want, that is their problem. This country is a secular country. We have different cultures, languages and traditions. Femi Kayode is on point. North have more poverty, diseases, hardship, illiteracy etc than any other region in Nigeria.
If Sultan cares about his followers, he should try to stop the vices Femi mentioned below:
“If the Sultan of Sokoto would champion the fight against child marriage and paedophilia in the same way and with the same zeal that he is fighting for and championing the cause of those who wish to wear the hijab ,the north would be a much better and safer place for little girls.

  9. Mshelia if you dont know the meaning of secular Look it up before typing with your sharia fingers. Why Nigeria is one country is because it is a secular state. The minute it swings in any religious direction this country will break up. A word is enough for the wise.
