Court unfreezes 16 bank accounts belonging to ex-first lady, Patience Jonathan

An Abuja Division of the Federal High Court has set aside its order made on May 30, freezing 16 accounts belonging to wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Justice Binta Nyako withdrew the order on Tuesday on the grounds that EFCC which secured the freezing order failed to conduct its investigation into the alleged infractions involving the 16 accounts.

The court’s decision followed an application by the counsel to Mrs. Jonathan asking the court to set aside an ex-parte motion filed by the EFCC for continued control of the accounts.

The lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, described EFCC’s motion as an abuse of court process. Ozekhome revealed that the court had ordered the EFCC to conduct its investigation within 90 days of freezing the accounts in May, but the commission failed to carry out the said investigation.

  1. PMB-Prof.ItseSagay-EFCC's anti corruption work is without scientific, systematic and logical way of doing things! It's as if they look at one's face and if they don't like your face they go to the media and make noise about you, telling the whole world how much you have stolen from the government. But, when the issues are brought before a structured environment or system where facts but not sentiments are considered, their supposedly holiness and saints fizzle out. They will later turn round and accuse the system of not doing enough in
supporting the crusade against corruption. They failed to carry out investigation with 90 days according to courts order. What happened to all the evidence, information, intelligence etc they claimed to have concerning these accounts? Their approach is similar to jungle justice; having pleasure in painting others black. Something is wrong with this government. They are not sincere, no doubt about that. David
