We Have No Issues With NLC – Kogi Govt

The Kogi State Government has said it had no disagreement with the Nigerian Labour Congress, saying any attempt to drag the name of the state in the mud will fail.

Addressing newsmen in Lokoja at the end of the State Executive Council Meeting, the Director General on Media and Publicity, Kingsley Fanwo said Labour should continue to work on “verifiable facts rather than negative propaganda “.

He said, “I don’t know where NLC got its information that we misappropriated our bail out and Paris Refund. But even before their unfounded allegations, the State Government had published details of the utilization of the said funds in national dailies and the official website of the state.

“The people of Kogi State know that corruption has no place under the administration of Alh. Yahaya Bello. We shall continue to ensure we do not take the trust of the people for granted”.

Fanwo said it is curious to note that the NLC had continued to “disregard unimpeachable facts” in favor of “spurious allegations ” against the State Government, urging the Labour union not to create the impression that it is “determined to malign the administration of Alh. Yahaya Bello for some sinister reasons”.

“The Kogi State Government is worried about the choice of the NLC to disregard facts in favor of peddling reckless falsehood against the Kogi State Government. Government will continue to protect the rights and interests of the Kogi workers.

“We have proven beyond doubt that this administration is committed to the welfare of the workers; but in doing that, we cannot obliterate the need for reforms to ensure people who are paid from the commonwealth of the people serve the common good of the people.

“The people and government of Kogi State shall continue to work with Labour unions even as we urge them to always seek clarifications on issues before going public in order to retain the trust and respect of the people.

“It is worrisome that the national leadership of the NLC made allegations that are untrue against the Kogi State Government. We remain committed to a greater Kogi State”.

The State Government said it will go ahead with the electronic register policy in the state civil service to check truancy and inefficiency, assuring the civil servants that government will protect them against any form of “molestation and violence”.

“The past few months has been peaceful as the state is witnessing tremendous security. Government will frown at any attempt at disturbing the peace of the state. People in positions of authority must always learn to imbibe responsible conduct”.
