Tammy Abraham has agreed to play for Nigeria

The NFF boss confirmed that the Swansea youngster is poised to team up with the Super Eagles after an ‘honest’ discussion last week.

Amaju Pinnick has declared that Tammy Abraham has agreed to play for the Nigeria senior national team.
The Nigeria Football Federation president confirmed his dialogue with the Swansea striker and his father who is keen to see his son play for the Super Eagles.

The forward registered 23 goals in the English championship last season while on loan to Bristol City from Chelsea and he has found the net twice this term for Swansea City while making a number of assists.

The NFF chief assured that both Abraham and his father have started the necessary documentation for the switch.

“I had a very honest and productive discussion with Tammy and his father last week,” Pinnick told The Sun.

“It’s been a long process but I can tell you authoritatively that he has agreed to play for Nigeria and not England.

“He and his parents have started the necessary documents to effect the switch.

“Clearly he understands he stands a better chance playing for the Super Eagles. With his talent he has the ability to fight for a place in the Nigeria squad, by God’s grace we make it to Russia, then he would contest for a chance to represent his fatherland.”

“I have said it often that my relationship with his father would help and so it was important to speak to them together."

“They are happy with the prospect of playing for Nigeria," he continued.

“Of course everyone in England can see what Victor Moses and Alex Iwobi have gone on to achieve with Nigeria.

“We must wait because it is not so straightforward with Fifa. But the important thing is that we have made a big capture by getting Tammy.”

  1. When Nigeria is frantically promoting Made in Nigeria, why can't they get the German hired as coach of the national football team to use his skills and understanding of football,if he has any to build a formidable team from all the raw talents that abounds in the country. The coach is more or less a football scout for Nigeria, only good at getting footballers abroad to play for the country not putting his claimed technical knowledge to develop football in Nigeria

  2. This report is false, BBC Sports just released this now that he has committed to England amidst news from Nigeria. See the report below;

Striker Tammy Abraham has stated his desire to have an international career with England following reports of interest from Nigeria.

London-born Abraham, on loan at Swansea from Chelsea, has played for England Under-21s but has a Nigerian father.

And the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) were thought to be keen to recruit the 19-year-old.

However, Abraham said: "I have informed The FA that I remain available for selection for England."

He continued: "Contrary to reports in the media I would like to clarify that I have not agreed to switch my national team allegiance.

"I can confirm I met the President of the NFF after our last game against Tottenham at Wembley on Saturday given he is a friend of my father.

"However, any suggestion that I have made a decision to change my international representation is incorrect and wide of the mark."

His words will be welcomed by Swansea boss Paul Clement, who believes he would be better off remaining with England.

"Hopefully he stays with the English national team," Clement said.

"I'm not sure if he'd be better off career-wise - I'm saying it because I'm English and he's a good English talent, so you want him involved in the national team.
