Nigerian Army warns IPOB, MASSOB, others on national security

The Nigerian Army on Friday told agitators in the Southeast to keep the peace.

It vowed to deal with any act capable of breaching the peace of the region.

The army didn’t mention any group by name but the Nnamdi kanu-led Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) have been holding rallies to demand a Republic of Biafra.

The IPOB has also threatened to stop the November 18 governorship election in Anambra State from taking place.

But the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, while speaking on the forthcoming second phase of Exercise Egwu Eke II (Python Dance II) in the Southeast, said on no account would kidnapping, cultism, violent agitations, theft of weapons, armed banditry and other security challenges which have become a daily phenomenon in the area be condoned henceforth.

The military operation is scheduled to commence on September 15, according to Buratai who spoke through the Chief of Training and Operations, Nigerian Army Headquarters, Major General David Ahmadu.

It will run for a month and involve raids, cordon and search, anti-kidnapping drills, road blocks, check points and show of force, as well as humanitarian activities such as medical outreach.

Buratai said Exercise Egwu Eke II has become expedient in view of “the mindless assassinations (even in religious places), attack on security personnel, theft of weapons, armed banditry, kidnapping, cultism and violent agitations, as well as other security challenges that have recently become prevalent in the Southeast part of the country.”

  2. The murderous Nigerian military now clearly treat southeast and south-south region as conquered territory. The annoying fact is that they are now recruiting illiterate and untrained Boko haram and unleashing them on the former eastern region to commit all sorts of mayhem and atrocities. Until, Biafrans unite and fight back to liberate their region, we are doomed.

  3. This is anti-igbo, the northern hs been massacred by Boko Haram in daily basis the will not go there and dance their so called python dance, and the eastern governors has been quiet over this, Buhari has planned to reduce the number of youths at the eastern states, Rochas is busy relocating markets, the end of October u will see the number of innocent Buhari men will kill

  5. My dear Igbo brothers, whatever the military is planning on doing in the Southeast, you brought it upon yourselves.
Nnamdi Kanu is down there making noise and threatening the Federal government. As if that was not enough, he's gone ahead to launch a security outfit.
The coming of the military down there will surely address Kanu's excesses.

    1. You seems to be the only person that have reasoned intelligently amongst the host of comments here. I believe, Igbo's elders should have cautioned Kanu on his activities. Agitation can be done civily without endangering lives and properties of the masses, but, Kanu believed in confrontational agitation taking over sensible Igbo people, surrounding himself with riffraff and ragtag misfits.

  6. Igbo leaders are useless. Peaceful movement members in the east are being killed while in the north they give them amnesty. All because Igbo leaders are willing to sell the people they claim to serve into a new slavery. Shame also on Ohaneze and all the south east so called governors the worst being rochas

  8. They call the Third World the lazy man’s purview; the sluggishly slothful and languorous prefecture. In this realm people are sleepy, dreamy, torpid, lethargic, and therefore indigent—totally penniless, needy, destitute, poverty-stricken, disfavored, and impoverished. In this demes...ne, as they call it, there are hardly any discoveries, inventions, and innovations. Africa is the trailblazer. Some still call it “the dark continent” for the light that flickers under the tunnel is not that of hope, but an approaching train. And because countless keep waiting in the way of the train, millions die and many more remain decapitated by the day. “It’s amazing how you all sit there and watch yourselves die,” the man next to me said. “Get up and do something about it.”Brawny, fully bald-headed, with intense, steely eyes, he was as cold as they come.
