NGO bill will cripple churches, mosques – Fani-Kayode warns

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has warned against the bill seeking to establish a commission that would regulate non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

Fani-Kayode claimed that the bill would cripple religious organizations like churches and mosques.

“The NGO Bill is evil. It will cripple Churches, mosques and all NGO’s and bring them under govt control. I advise Nigerians to resist it,” he tweeted on Monday.

The bill is being sponsored by Hon. Umar Jibril, the deputy majority leader of the House of Representatives.

Most observers believe the bill is aimed at clamping down on the organisations, while the lawmakers insist that it will help curb alleged corruption among NGOs in the country.

  3. What does this Hon. Umar Jibril bill days? We must be able to know its contents before we can support or kill it but we need to be very careful when it comes to trying to control these religious organizations, especially the churches.
While the lawmakers insist that it will help curb alleged corruption among NGOs in the country, have they curbed their own corruption? What about curbing the corruption in the house? What about curbing the corruption in the government and its agencies? I'm not against curbing corruption but these religious NGOs are not government funded agencies but members funded, so why do we put our nose, smelling what we shouldn't just for the sake of smelling? What are u going to achieve when u tell a church or mosque how to spend the money their members donated to them? I don't understand. Only God should do what u are trying to do with ur law sir. If they are sponsored by the government, then we have the right to put them under government control but they are members sponsored even though the churches should be checked but by God not the government. Churches can't be put under no government check as long as they are not government sponsored. The issue of the church is both spiritual and moral and no law can control those, they are of the heart. Yes, God is not happy with His church but we must be careful not to begin to oppress the church trying to control it. So let God deal with His property while the government deals with her own problems. But I would like to know what the bill says and it's implementation before I could make a final decision of where I stand but from afar off, don't do it. Churches, look at urself, look at where u have brought urself and how deep u have disgraced urself. It shouldn't come to this, that human laws should be inacted to curb the excesses of the church. U have left those things u should do undone and we are pursuing after vanity, after airplanes, after mansions, after cars and sinful materials. U have departed ur first love and as such, we need to be chastized and be corrected by the laws of men, very disgraceful. But not withstanding, the government should go and first curb the Customs, check the Police department, execute laws on various agencies of the government BUT please leave the churches out of it, they don't belong to u sir. Tanx a lot and be blessed inJesusChristname. As usual Today Monday 09252017 @ 11:08 am.
